First part of Fangirlish visit on set!

Fangirlish has had the chance of visiting the VA set in July and recounts what they saw, a scene being filmed for over an hour, the actors and extras in uniforms as well as an interview with the producers.

Fangirlish a eu la chance de visiter le tournage de VA en juillet et nous raconte ce qu’ils ont vu: une scène tournée pendant plus d’une heure, les acteurs et les figurants en uniforme ainsi qu’une interview avec les producteurs.

“So, off we go and, in a stairwell, we watched on tiny monitors a quick run-through and then watching the actors (this included Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry) acting the scene out for over an hour and a half. While watching this, one of the producers, Deepak Nayar came and chatted to us. He was very fast-witted and chatted openly about casting. He admitted that Danila Kozlovsky was casted very quickly (and yes, he admits that Danila is very good-looking) and Lucy Fry casting was very unique. She was backpacking when she auditioned for Lissa and, within 48 hours, she was casted. And as for the casting for Christian, he was hard to cast because he had to be an outsider, but be appealing to Lissa, had to aloof but appealing. Dominic Sherwood was casted in the end, but he was one of the last to be casted.”

“On s’est ensuite mis en route et on a regardé une répétition sur les écrans pour ensuite voir les acteurs (dont Zoey Deutch et Lucy Fry) jouer une scène pendant plus d’une heure et demie. Tout en regardant, l’un des producteurs, Deepak Nayar, est venu nous parler. Il était très vif d’esprit et nous a parlé ouvertement du casting. Il a admis que Danila Kozlovsky avait été engagé rapidement (et oui, il a admis que Danila est très beau) et que la situation de Lucy Fry avait été unique. Elle faisait de la randonnée quand elle a auditionné pour le rôle de Lissa, et dans les 48 heures, elle avait le rôle. Pour ce qui est de Christian, il était difficile à trouver car il devait être extérieur, tout en attirant Lissa, il devait être distant mais attirant. Dominic Sherwood a finalement eu le rôle mais il a été parmi les derniers à être casté.”

“After this, we moved and watched the scene being filmed and spoke to another two producers, Susan Montford and Don Murphy. All three producers are hugely passionate about the book and all wanted to keep the film as loyal to the book as possible. But Don and Susan told that they spoke often to Richelle for her input and advice if there was any queries. They also revealed that making Blood Sisters was a bit difficult as most of the larger studios rejected the movie as they were “vampired out”. Plus, the title of Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters was seen as problematic.”

“Après cela, on a bougé et regardé le tournage de la scène tout en parlant à deux autres producteurs, Susan Montford et Don Murphy. Tous trois sont très passionné par le livre et veulent rendre le film aussi fidèle que possible au livre. Mais Don et Susan nous ont confié avoir souvent parlé avec Richelle pour avoir son avis et ses conseils. Ils ont aussi révélé qu’il avait été dur de tourner Soeurs de sang car la plupart des grands studios rejetaient le film en raison des vampires. De plus, le titre de Vampire Academy: Soeurs de sang était considéré comme problématique.”

“After that, we spoke very briefly to Sarah Hyland, who will be Natalie (most of you know will know her from ABC’s Modern Family). While she didn’t want to reveal much to us due to spoilers, she revealed that Natalie’s little ticks was a last minute thing she added in her audition and the director, Mark Waters, liked them and asked her to keep them in.”

“Après cela, on a brièvement parlé avec Sarah Hyland, qui joue Natalie (la plupart d’entre vous la connaissent dans Modern Family). Même si elle n’a pas souhaité en dire trop pour cause de spoilers, elle a révélé avoir ajouté quelques petits tics au personnage de Natalie lors de son audition et le réalisateur, Mark Waters, avait aimé et lui avait demandé de les garder dans le film.”
